Dr. Monica Sandoval has worked in urban public school education in a variety of settings as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and associate superintendent. She has been an advocate and specialist in services for English language learners for over 30 years. She began her career as a bilingual teacher in the Oklahoma City Public Schools. She also worked in San Antonio and Brownsville ISD. She served the Houston Independent School District in several capacities for over 20 years. She served as an Associate Superintendent, an Assistant Superintendent, a high school and elementary school principal in Houston ISD. She received her B.S. from the University of Oklahoma and her M.Ed. from the University of Texas at Pan American in Brownsville. She was a fellow in the first Houston Annenberg Challenge Leadership Academy during the 2000 school year. She was a Broad Fellow in the Urban Superintendent Program in 2004-2005. She completed her doctorate as a fellow in the Cooperative Superintendency program at the University of Texas at Austin in 2012. She has served as a Leadership Coach for Educate Texas (formerly the Texas High School Project) since 2006. She coaches principals that are part of the College and Career Readiness School Models (CCRSM) Network for underrepresented groups across Texas.
